# Repositories

`abi new project` creates the project directory. By default it also runs `git init` there and adds the ABI framework as the `.abi` submodule. That directory holds `config.yaml`, `.env`, and `src/`. The command does not create a repository named `abi/monorepo`.

`abi/monorepo` is a second repository: owner `abi`, name `monorepo`, the default `coding_repo_id`. It is not a folder inside the project. The coding stack seeds it in Forgejo, and that stack stays off unless you pass `--with-coding`. Without Forgejo, the same id is seeded in the local in-memory git store the first time slides, documents, sheets, or an app project need git. On Slides the footer shows Repo `abi/monorepo` and branch `slides/<slug>`. On Code the footer shows the Forgejo repository that is selected. Chat, Maps, and Files leave Repo empty.

The command and its flags are [`abi new project`](/user-guide/reference/cli#abi-new-project). Starting the directory is [Installation](/user-guide/platform/installation).
